The title translates as Thank you my friend where the friend in this case is the French language itself. I have enjoyed learning the language in high school and college and thought that it deserved its own song.

I almost quit French after my two-year requirement for high school. My high school teacher convinced me otherwise (and I thank her for it) and I ended up majoring in French in college.

The title is supposed to be Merci mon ami (with no capital letters on the last two words) as this is how the French title their songs, books, etc. However, my distribution company will not allow song titles to contain lowercase words because it's too unprofessional. So all capitals it is, I guess.
